High Acres Christian Church

In order to give you a broader picture of what God is doing in New England, this week's Spotlight is on a partner church. The High Acres Christian Church has been served by Jim Wegner for eight years.

H
igh Acres has a rich history of faithful people. Originally called Ansonia Church of Christ, it was founded on January 6, 1966, meeting in the home of Richard Bourne. It continued to grow, and in 1975 they purchased land for a future building which was constructed in 1980, and is the present facility for High Acres. Since that time membership has increased and decreased. In 2001 a handful of Christians decided to take a bold step and begin again, forming High Acres Christian Church with new leadership and a renewed vision, "Living, Loving, and Proclaiming Christ". Today they continue that same vision with a mission to reach the Naugatuck River Valley, New Haven County, and the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

God continues to move at High Acres. In the last seven years they have seen over 70 baptisms, with whole families coming to the Lord. There are now four Home Bible Fellowships (small groups) and another will be added in September. Last year God raised up three young people to be youth leaders and the group now consists of 18 high school youth. They all continue to reach out to the Valley for Christ.

High Acres believers continue to step out to reach people for Christ. They are involved with what they call Drive-Thru Gospel. Each person, when going through the drive-thru at area restaurants, pays for the car behind them, leaving behind an invite card to be given to that car. They have also started "Adopt a Business," where they do a series of acts of love towards the chosen business for that year. Like their sister congregation, Newtown Christian Church, they have given free bottles of water at Wal-Mart and other locations around town.

High Acres' main goals for the year are: (1) to show people how to get out of debt and live debt free and (2) to help each member know the Bible and to use it in their personal growth and in their witness to the Naugatuck River Valley.
