What do New England and China have in common? Both have Chinese that need to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ! How are New England and China connected to Restoration House Ministries? Both are being evangelized through RHM.
The mission of RHM is to partner with the church in "transforming the spiritual landscape of New England, and beyond." When writing the mission statement, the Board of Directors did not know what the words "and beyond" might mean in the future. God answered that question when Wing Wong brought his ministry to China under the umbrella of RHM. This move allows him to draw upon the resources of RHM and the Chinese church in Manchester to aid his ministry in China.
When Wing arrived in Manchester he was already taking several trips to China each year to train national leaders and was using the internet to teach one group at a time through streaming video. Not long after arriving in New England, he found a streaming video service that allows him to teach several groups simultaneously in China. The teacher sees the students and the students are able to see the teacher and ask questions. A whiteboard is also available for the teacher to show pictures, draw diagrams and write. It is an amazing service.
Using this technology, Wing has developed an e-Bible Institute with a curriculum that will help students mature in their understanding of God's Word and how to apply it in their lives and the church.
Currently Wing's ministry in China consists of the following:
- Teaching groups in five locations through the internet
- Employing eight ministers and two administrators
- 800-1000 Chinese attending the churches where Wing's ministers preach
- Over 70 students enrolled and studying in three classes currently being taught by three different teachers through the e-Bible Institute
- Teaching a separate Sunday School class through the internet
Beyond this ministry, Wing also ministers to a Chinese congregation of about 60 in Malden, Massachusetts. Though RHM did not start this church, Wing is providing leadership that will help them understand the Bible better and eventually become a New Testament church. This past Sunday there were three baptisms in this church.
Ultimately the goal is for one of the Chinese living in New England to catch a vision of the huge need in China and return there as a missionary. Recently five members of the two Chinese churches accompanied Wing on a trip to China. Perhaps in the future one of them will be led by God to return to their homeland on a full time basis.
